The CEO of UnitedHealthcare's insurance division, Brian Thompson, was shot in the chest outside the Hilton hotel on 6th Avenue, according to reports.
The New York Post first reported the news Wednesday morning, citing police sources. The New York Times also reported Thompson is the victim of a Manhattan shooting.
Police did not publicly name Thompson as the victim Wednesday morning, but a department spokeswoman told Business Insider that a 50-year-old man was shot in the chest and leg outside 1135 6th Avenue.
When police arrived, the man was unconscious and unresponsive, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead.
UnitedHealthcare didn't immediately return a call seeking comment about the shooting, but an "investor day" conference in Manhattan was canceled shortly after reports of the shooting broke.
This story is breaking and will be updated.
